Dead: Bibi Aleah Ali

An accident in the wee hours of Monday on the Kiltearn Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice, has resulted in the death of an 18-year-old Medical Technologist, Bibi Aleah Ali.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF), in a statement, said the incident occurred at approximately 02:10h and involved a motor car driven by her husband, Niraz Sukdeo, a 24-year-old Medical Technologist from Lancaster Village.

The Police Force indicated that the vehicle, which licence plate number is PAF 6330, was travelling north along the western drive lane at high speed when Sukdeo lost control.

The car collided with a crane parked on the parapet and subsequently plunged into a canal on the eastern side of the road.

The collision caused Ali to be ejected from the vehicle and into the canal. Both Sukdeo and Ali sustained injuries and were assisted by public-spirited citizens who transported them to nearby hospitals.

Ali was pronounced dead on arrival at Skeldon Public Hospital, while Sukdeo was admitted to Anamayah Memorial Hospital with multiple injuries.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
