Students robbed at knife-point by bicycle gang after leaving classes

Two female students were on Monday robbed at knife-point by eight identifiable males on bicycles after they finished classes at the Critchlow Labour College on Woolford Avenue, Georgetown.

The victims are a 20-year-old of Camp Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, and a 28-year-old of Block 8 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The incident occurred at about 21:00 h.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that the 20-year-old victim was robbed of a Samsung Galaxy cell phone valued at $30,000 and $23,000 cash, while the 28-year-old was relieved of a Samsung A30 cell phone valued at $57,000 and $8,000 cash.

Investigations thus far revealed that the victims had finished classes and were waiting on transportation to go home when the eight perpetrators approached them on bicycles.

One of the suspects was armed with a knife, and he pointed it at the victims in a menacing manner while the other gang members relieved them of their valuables.

After relieving the victims of their valuables, the suspects escaped west along Woolford Avenue and onto Albert Street. The GPF noted that the investigation is ongoing.
