James Dos Santos being assisted by a doctor

A 30-year-old Supervisor was on Sunday lashed to the foot after refusing to buy alcohol for a co-worker.

The victim has been identified as James Dos Santos, a Supervisor of Pearl, East Bank Demerara (EBD). The incident occurred at about 21:00h at Kaburi Village, Essequibo River.

Reports are that the suspect and the victim are known to each other as they both work at a logging company in the area.

According to Commander for Region Seven Dion Moore, on the day in question, Dos Santos was in the company's truck asleep when he was awakened by the suspect who asked him for money to buy alcohol.

Dos Santos refused, and the suspect then picked up an object and dealt him one lash to his right leg, causing him to collapse.

The victim raised an alarm and was assisted by members of the village. He was then escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor.

The doctor then referred him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) to undergo further medical attention. His condition is regarded as stable. Police are looking for the suspect as the investigation continues.
