Suriname businessman crushed by log truck on the Corentyne
Police in Berbice are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Surinamese businessman whose name was given only as Corojoe aka, "Pikachu" of Paramaribo who was crushed by a log truck at Even Creek up the Corentyne River on Friday.
Initial investigations revealed that the deceased and a businessman from Crabwood Creek who owns a sawmill left for Even Creek, Corentyne River about 250 miles up the river to check on the different types of logs that are available.
While at the landing, the businessman and "Pikachu" were standing behind the cabin of a truck. However, "Pikachu" attempted to drink some water from a bottle and while doing so the truck bounced on the trail causing him to fall between the wheels and cabin, which resulted in the right-side rear wheel running over him.
Regional Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed the incident and noted the deceased was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
This is the second person to have died at the same location. Only last month an employee died after a skidder wheel exploded and caused the victim to be flung several feet in the air before dropping to his demise.
Investigations are ongoing.
