Taxi driver accused of raping child committed to stand trial in High Court
A 22-year-old taxi driver from Aberdeen, Essequibo Coast, Region Two, has been committed to stand trial in the High Court for raping a child under the age of 16.
Haimraj Narine was formally charged on Wednesday for the alleged crime, which reportedly took place on May 13, 2023, on the Essequibo Coast. The case was heard before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke in the Anna Regina Magistrate's Court.
During the proceedings, a paper committal was held, where all relevant statements and documents were presented and marked as exhibits.
After reviewing the evidence, Magistrate Clarke ruled that there was sufficient evidence to commit Narine to stand trial at the next practicable session of the Suddie Supreme Criminal Court. Narine was granted bail in the sum of $150,000 pending his trial.
