Taxi driver nabbed with over 4lbs of ganja near Harbour Bridge
Police in Region Three have arrested a 40-year-old taxi driver near the Demerara Harbour Bridge after he was found in possession of over four pounds of marijuana.
The taxi driver was nabbed on Friday at about 21:30h following an intelligence-led operation led by an assistant superintendent.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), officers observed a silver-grey Toyota Premio with registration PNN 7493 travelling east near the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
Acting on intelligence, the police stopped the vehicle for a routine check. Upon being questioned about any illegal items in his car, the driver admitted to having “some weed.”
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a black plastic bag containing two parcels of leaves, seeds, and stems of cannabis.
The marijuana was seized, and the driver was informed of the offence: possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. He was cautioned, arrested, and transported to the Providence Police Station.
The seized marijuana, when weighed, amounted to 2,050 grams, approximately 4.5 pounds. The driver remains in custody and is expected to be formally charged.
