Taxi driver slapped with causing death by dangerous driving charge
A taxi driver was on Monday arraigned on causing death by dangerous driving charge and released on bail.
38-year-old Vishram Singh of Lot 5 Somerset and Berks, Essequibo Coast, was hauled before Magistrate Esther Sam in the Charity Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on December 26, 2021, on the New Road Public Road Essequibo Coast, he drove a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Vickash Kevin Fredericks.
The Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied, and Singh pleaded not guilty. As a result, he was granted $300,000 bail, and the matter was adjourned to December 21, 2022.
Reports are that on the day in question, at about 19:00h, Fredericks was on his way home when he allegedly lost control of his motorcycle and slammed into the car.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition and rushed to the Oscar Joseph Hospital. He was then transferred to the Suddie Public Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
