Taxi driver who claimed his “brethren” gave him ganja to keep remanded
A 28-year-old taxi driver, who was busted with a quantity of marijuana on Republic Day, has been remanded to prison.
Noel Tobin of Bartica, Region Seven, was hauled before Magistrate Crystal Lambert in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and denied the charge when it was read to him.
It is alleged that on February 23, 2024, at Bartica, he had 33,470 grams of marijuana in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
After his not-guilty plea, the Magistrate remanded Tobin to prison and adjourned the matter to March 18, 2024.
It was reported that ranks from the Bartica Police Station at about 22:00h on Friday last went to the taxi driver’s apartment and conducted a search.
During the search, a suitcase, two shopping bags, and two transparent plastic bags were opened and contained marijuana. As a result, Tobin was arrested, told of the offence committed, and cautioned.
Police said that Tobin admitted to having knowledge of the narcotics and stated that his “brethren” gave him the drugs to keep.
