Teacher accused of raping schoolgirl remanded to prison
A 25-year-old teacher accused of raping a schoolgirl has been charged and remanded to prison.
Dahlerus Courtman of 87-89 Three Miles Potaro Road, Bartica, was hauled before Teriq Mohammed in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
He was not required to plead to the charge, which stated that he engaged in sexual activity with a child by abusing a position of trust.
The teacher was remanded to prison and is scheduled to return to court on March 07, 2025.
Courtman made rounds on social media after a post surfaced accusing him of raping the child, who is reportedly 12 years. Reports are that he told the child to skip classes and allegedly committed the offence.
Not long after the post was made on social media, the teacher was arrested and subsequently charged.
