Teen dies following early morning New Amsterdam hit and run

Police in Berbice are investigating the circumstances surrounding an accident that left 19 year old Vishan Ramphal of Belvedere Corentyne who was driving a motorcycle dead and a female pillion rider, 18 year old Renita Prechand critical in the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The accident took place just around 00:35 hours today on Main Street in New Amsterdam.

MTV News Update understands that the the Ramphal was driving motorcycle CJ 4962 allegedly at a fast rate of speed proceeding north on the eastern drive lane when motor car PJJ 3534 collided with him causing him and the pillion rider to be flung several feet into the air and into the concrete base on an arch.

They both recorded injuries about their bodies and were picked up by public spirited citizens who rushed them to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead while the pillion rider was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. She suffered a broken right leg and arm.

Police are currently making efforts to locate the motor car that was involved in the accident and fled the scene.

Investigations are ongoing.
