A 17-year-student and his uncle were arrested on Friday after Police unearthed a quantity of marijuana at the home of a 65-year-old businessman at Middle Walk, Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The 65-year-old businessman, who has been identified as Clairmonte Barnes, called “Rastaman” or “Chubby,” is presently before the court for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that a search was carried out in the duo's presence.

During the operation, a transparent bag was found in the house's ceiling containing 22 transparent ziplock bags with a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be marijuana.

The teen and his uncle, along with the suspected cannabis, were escorted to the Vigilance Police Station. The suspected narcotics were weighed in the presence of the 17-year-old and the uncle, which amounted to 37.2 grams—investigations in progress.
