They killed my baby – mother of 6-month pregnant teen who died at GPHC
A six-month pregnant teen died on Wednesday at the Georgetown Public Hospital after being emergency transported to the facility from the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
Dead is 16-year-old, Dana Pestano also known as “Onasis Pestano.” She reportedly died just around 10:00h on Wednesday.
While speaking to social media agency Guyana Daily News, the teen's distraught mother, Diana Pestano, stated that her daughter was asthmatic.
She said that her daughter became ill at about 18:30h on Tuesday, and as such, she rushed her to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
"The doctor saw her, gave her little oxygen, and sounded her for the baby heartbeat but did he didn't find the baby heartbeat. He gave her a medication, and he sent her home Tuesday night," the grieving mother stated.
According to the mother, at about 9:30h on Wednesday, her daughter's health deteriorated, and she was rushed back to the hospital, where she was given oxygen and medication.
However, Diana contends that the oxygen nor the medication did not help her daughter. In fact, she said her daughter called her and said, "Mommy, I love you, and she kissed me, and she said bye, bye, I cannot make it anymore."
Moreover, the aggravated mother added, "I begged them to carry her to a private hospital, I begged them for an ambulance because I couldn't take her off the oxygen, and they told me no, they cannot do that. I have to take self-discharge, but I couldn't take her off the oxygen."
To this end, Diana believes that "Best (West Demerara) killed my baby, if they had looked her after all the time, this would have never happened. I need some justice. Best hospital killed my baby."
Meanwhile, GPHC's Head of Strategic Management and Communications, Chelauna Providence, said that she have not received any report on the incident but committed to sharing once received.
