Three weeks later: No sight of woman in Canje Creek mishap
It has been over three weeks, and local authorities have been unable to locate 27-year-old Shellon Williamson, who went missing after the boat she and her boyfriend was in reportedly capsized and sank in the Canje River, Region Six.
Williamson, a mother of three, and her boyfriend, 29-year-old Richard John, both of Mimi Dam Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, went missing on April 29 after the boat they were in capsized and later submerged.
Two days after the mishap, the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guards recovered John’s body.
On Tuesday, the Regional Commander Boodnarine Persaud confirmed that authorities are still searching for the 27-year-old mother of three. He has noted that his officers are in contact with the family.
At about 20:45h on the day in question, the tugboat that Williamson, John, along with Keon Jannis, and Captain Dennis John were in capsized in the Canje Creek, trapping them.
While Jannis and Captain John made it out alive, this was not the case for the couple. In fact, Captain John, who is the brother of Richard, said that his sister-in-law shouted that there was a hole in the boat and water was coming into it.
