‘Tooke’ among two in custody over illegal gun and ganja

An intelligence-led operation by law enforcement officers in New Amsterdam, Berbice, on Friday has resulted in the seizure of a quantity of marijuana and an illegal firearm.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that at about 17:10h on the day in question, ranks went to Lot 8 Savannah Park in New Amsterdam to search the home of Tiequan Hartman, a 20-year-old labourer called ‘Tooke,’ for stolen articles.
Upon arrival, the police found that Hartman resided in a ‘range house’—a building composed of four separate apartments within a fenced yard.
As they searched Hartman’s apartment, officers discovered a transparent plastic bag containing a quantity of marijuana. According to the Police, Hartman denied ownership of the marijuana, claiming it belonged to his father.

The search extended to the backyard, where officers uncovered seven additional transparent zip-lock bags filled with marijuana. Hartman was informed of the offence, cautioned, and placed under arrest.
During a subsequent search of the yard and the neighbouring apartment occupied by 24-year-old Akeem Bovell, police said they observed a three-foot-long rope draped over the zinc fence in the backyard.
Upon closer inspection, they found a multi-coloured handbag secured to the rope. When officers opened the bag in Bovell’s presence, they discovered more cannabis, along with a .22 pistol. The men are in custody as the investigation continues.
