Tractor fails to stop at junction, causing fatal collision on Lichfield Public Road

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has launched an investigation into a fatal accident that occurred on the Lichfield Public Road, West Coast Berbice (WCB).

The accident resulted in the death of 65-year-old Gokaran Lackram, the driver of motor lorry GAE 4037, from Cotton Tree Village.

According to the GPF, the accident involved Lackram’s lorry and a tractor 35473 with an unregistered trailer, driven by 52-year-old Sherlock George of Lichfield Village.

Reports indicate that Lackram’s lorry was travelling east along the northern side of the road, negotiating a right bend when George’s tractor, which was proceeding south from an access road, failed to stop at the Lichfield Public Road junction.

The tractor entered the path of the lorry, leading to a collision. The front of the lorry struck the right side of the trailer, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

Lackram, along with two porters who were seated in the tray of the lorry, sustained injuries. They were taken in a conscious condition to the Fort Wellington Hospital, where they were treated.

Despite medical efforts, Lackram succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. The two porters were admitted to the hospital in stable condition and are under observation.
