Two detained for making false robbery report
Two men were on Tuesday detained for making a false robbery report to the Police.
According to the Police, at about 16:40h, a 35-year-old mason and 25-year-old labourer – both of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD), went to the Grove Police Station and reported that they were robbed by six men on bicycles, who were armed with knives at Friendship, EBD.
The mason told investigators that he was robbed of $125,000 cash, property of his employer, and his Samsung A3 cellphone, valued at $45,000.
The 25-year-old labourer, on the other hand, reported that he was robbed of his cellphone valued at $32,000, a wallet with $1000 in cash, and other personal documents.
“Both men were interviewed by ranks of the Grove Police station and CID, during which it was suspected their report was false in nature,” the Police said.
As a result, a search was carried out on their respective haversacks, during which the items the men claimed they were robbed of were found.
They were told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested, and placed into custody.
