Two killed, another critical following Berbice accident
Two persons lost their lives in the wee hours of Sunday following an accident on the Bramfield Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead are 39-year-old Qualis Crawford, a Disc Jockey (DJ) of Sookdeo Street, Vryheid, New Amsterdam, and Shelliza London of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.
Another person whose identity is unknown is hospitalised at the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital.
Reports are that the accident occurred sometime after 2:00h while the occupants were on their way home in motorcar PAB 7203, which Crawford was driving after attending an event on the Corentyne.
MTV News Update understands that while at Bramfield on the Corentyne, Crawford lost control of the vehicle after swerving from a cow.
As a result, the car toppled several times before landing in a nearby trench. The other person, whose identity is unknown, pulled himself out of the vehicle while Crawford and London were trapped inside.
In fact, an eyewitness recalled seeing the survivor attempting to stop his vehicle, but given that the area was desolate, he refused and proceeded on his journey.
He noted that after a few distances, he returned and saw the survivor along with the car in the trench.
The Police were called to the scene, and the survivor was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he was admitted.
The DJ and London were taken out of the mangled car and pronounced dead.
Crawford’s common-law wife Melissa April recalled receiving the dreadful news from a friend of her husband who called her at about 3:00h.
After receiving the news, she said she travelled to the location only to witness her partner’s lifeless body lying on the road’s shoulder with the female.
She described him as a loving individual who loved to help anyone. Investigations are ongoing.
