Two more maternal deaths at GPHC

Two women, aged 25 and 31, are the latest maternal deaths at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

MTV News Update was reliably informed that the 25-year-old woman was admitted to the medical institution and a physical examination showed painful distress.

She also had a perforated bowel and underwent surgery but succumbed on January 1, 2023. As for the 31-year-old woman, she visited the hospital gasping and subsequently became unresponsive and pulseless.

She was diagnosed with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and was intubated and sedated until she succumbed on Friday morning. Both babies died.

In a brief statement, the hospital expressed condolences to the families of the two women and pledged their support.

“The GPHC is appealing to the public to respect the confidentiality of the deceased and her family, and to allow them to mourn their unfortunate loss peacefully.”

In November last, the medical facility recorded a number of maternal deaths.
