Two teens arrested for assaulting cop in Berbice

The two men have been identified as 18 year old Quincy King of Angoy’s Avenue New Amsterdam and 19 year old Christopher Abrams also of Angoy’s Avenue.

They were arrested moments after attacking a police officer while he was executing his duties at Republic Road in New Amsterdam at about 8:00 hours.

Regional Commander, Shivpersaud Bacchus, noted that the men are expected to be charged with multiple offences including assaulting a peace officer. “They jointly attacked and assaulted a police officer who was on duty at the time and providing them with lawful traffic instructions and directions which they failed to comply with.”

He said the policeman after being knocked to the ground was forced to get on his feet and defend himself from an aggressive and abusive Abrams who is seen in a video in circulation on social media.

Bacchus confirmed that the constable has since been required to seek medical attention.

Investigations are ongoing.
