Thirty-three-year-old Ozard Rushell is now homeless after his one-flat wooden house was gutted by fire early this morning.

In a statement, the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) said the blaze started at about 06:30h and ruled out that the cause was due to a lit kerosene stove, which was left unattended.

According to the GFS, the fire from the kerosene stove came into contact with nearby combustible materials and ignited.

Despite neighbours using buckets of water to extinguish the blaze, the building and its contents were destroyed.
