Unidentified pedestrian killed following accident at Madewini
An unidentified pedestrian met his demise earlier this morning after being struck by a motor lorry at Madewini along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
The accident occurred at about 05:30h and involved a motor lorry driven by a 28-year-old man of Mackenzie, Linden.
The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that the motor lorry was proceeding north along the western side of the road when the pedestrian, who was sitting on a tyre, suddenly ran from the west going east and into the path of the motor lorry.
The driver claimed that he applied brakes, but he collided with the pedestrian due to the short distance. As a result, the pedestrian fell onto the road's surface and received injuries about his head and body.
The pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious condition by the police and was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was then escorted to Carmen's Funeral Home for storage while awaiting identification and a Post Mortem Examination (PME).
The driver was administered a breathalyser test, but no trace of alcohol was found in his system. He is presently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
