CIT Holdings USA, manufacturer of AEGIS specialized cement, have set out to ensure they can meet the growing demand by the housing and infrastructure sectors; having recognised the need for cement in Guyana’s growing construction industry.

Aegis Cement Guyana will be present at the International Building Expo 2022 slated for July 22 to 24. Guyana’s building expo is the only exhibition of its kind in the Caribbean and is aimed at responding to the housing and construction needs of Guyanese and foreigners, fostering home ownership and catapulting the construction sector, and creating and advancing linkages among local, regional and international stakeholders within the construction and housing sector.

Aegis Guyana specialises in providing concrete, steel and sheet piling at the best prices due to the fact that they manufacture and provide logistics for shipping in-house.

Chairman of the group, Adriann Charles explained "We decided to invest heavily into production based on the plans laid out by President Irfaan Ali and his government around the construction industry and housing market. As a result, our Aegis Cement division is now in a position to immediately supply over 40,000 metric tonnes of the highest quality cement in the world!"

This statement is supported by the fact that Type IS Cement is a unique blend of Type I/II Cement and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS). Its unique properties have been recognized by the US and European construction markets where Type IS has been in use for over a hundred years.

Engineers and builders have discovered that the improved durability characteristics assist in reducing life-cycle costs and maintenance costs of projects and the finished concrete product is also more sustainable.

A Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) was performed on concrete made with Portland cement mixtures for ready mixed concrete, precast concrete and block applications. Another LCI study documented the same mixtures for concrete substituting slag cement for a portion of the Portland. The results of these studies revealed distinct environmental advantages of incorporating slag cement into the concrete mixture.

The most important effect provided by the use of Type IS Cement is decreased concrete permeability which inhibits entry of chloride ions that contribute to the corrosion of reinforced steel in the structure.

AEGIS Type IS Cement is also climate friendly as there are no CO2 emissions at the steel plant or at the grinding plant.

The company already has several orders in place from major local companies and guarantees prompt shipping at lower than current market prices in an effort to support the booming construction industry in Guyana.
