Vendor arrested after Police raid uncovers over 400 grams of ganja

A late-night police raid at the Stabroek Market Tarmac in Georgetown led to the arrest of Kevin Evans, a 26-year-old vendor from ‘C’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, after authorities discovered a quantity of marijuana at his stall.


According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), a team of officers from Regional Division 4 ‘A,’ led by an Assistant Superintendent, carried out the operation. During the search of Evans’ stall, officers uncovered several zip-lock bags containing marijuana.





Further investigation in the surrounding area resulted in the discovery of a plastic bag containing additional marijuana. Upon being confronted, Evans admitted ownership of the narcotics and was immediately cautioned and arrested.


At the Stabroek Market Police Outpost, the marijuana found at the stall was weighed and amounted to 17.8 grams, while the plastic bag contained 458.2 grams, bringing the total to 476 grams.


Evans remains in police custody and is expected to be charged shortly.
