Venezuelan woman, 28, shot during police chase, ranks involved under close arrest
The Guyana Police Force (GPF), in a statement early Tuesday morning, said it was investigating a shooting incident that resulted in a 28-year-old Venezuelan woman being injured in the Werk-en-Rust area of Georgetown on Monday.
The incident occurred at approximately 14:00h on Lime Street when two ranks from the Brickdam Police Station’s Impact Base Anti-Crime Patrol attempted to stop a tinted vehicle based on information received for a search.
The vehicle, however, refused to comply and sped away, according to the GPF, prompting the ranks to open fire while in pursuit.
During the chase, the bystander was struck by a bullet in the left side of her buttocks. She was immediately rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment.
In response to the incident, the ranks involved have been placed under close arrest.
“The Office of Professional Responsibility is currently conducting an investigation,” the GPF noted.
