Vigilance man arrested after being found with unlicensed gun in his crotch
A 34-year-old vendor from Vigilance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was arrested this morning after being found with an unlicensed gun and several matching rounds in his crotch.
At about 01:56h today, Police ranks were on patrol in Friendship, ECD, when they saw Colwin Barnwell, called 'Timmo,' standing with a black plastic bag in his hand.
On seeing the ranks, Barnwell reportedly walked away and was told to ‘stop’ but instead, he ran.
The ranks gave chase, and he was caught. A search was conducted on him, and one Glock 17 Pistol with no serial number and two 9mm matching rounds of ammunition were found in the crotch of his pants.
The vendor was asked if he was a licensed firearm holder, to which he said “no.” He was told of the offence committed and cautioned.
He claimed that he bought the firearm when he was in Aranka, Region Seven. Barnwell was arrested and escorted to the Vigilance Police Station and placed into custody pending charges.
In a statement, the Police boasted of the various operations, which have seen a number of illegal guns coming off the streets.
"The Guyana Police Force remains unwavering in its commitment to rid our streets of illegal and unlicensed firearms and to make our communities safer."
