-President responds to concerns from Civil Society Groups
Several Civil Society Groups have raised concerns that there may be a lack of oversight and transparency on Government projects because of the decisions being made at that level.
In response to those concerns, President Dr Irfaan Ali on Thursday made it clear that his Government has no plans to slow down.
He said, “we are going to move at an even more accelerated pace to ensure the commitments we made to the people of this country are realized and that our social contract on which we were elected must be achieved.”
Dr Ali maintains that the decisions made by his administration, are discussed in the eyes of the public and as such, there has been no lack of accountability or transparency.
Notwithstanding the fact that civil society groups play a major role in the economy, the Head of State questioned the voices of these bodies during the election fiasco in 2020.
"It is clear there are some organisations that are convenient with the truth and that are political in nature and they cannot help themselves and they are political bias and I do not have an issue with them being biased but they cannot hide under the coat of Independence.” Dr Ali said
The President said he has no apology for the pace of development. He said, “we are not going to succumb to an agenda that is trying to slow the development project of our country and our people.”
Furthermore, the President made it clear that his Government is not operating on a hidden agenda and as such he said they are ready to answer any question on their agenda.
