The Ministry of Health is looking to promote ‘healthy lifestyles’ at the Health Symposium and Conference scheduled for the weekend.
Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony said keen focus would be placed on preventative measures as he noted that the Ministry would like people to live healthy and long lives.
At the Health Symposium and Conference , a wellness charter will also be signed. Dr. Anthony said this is to ensure that more entities and their workforce understand the concept of wellness.
“We want to do more of the preventative aspect trying to prevent people from getting sick and the way we can do that is for people to embrace a different type of lifestyle, so we have to get people to do the right thing, so nutrition is very important; we have to get people to reduce the risk factors for getting sick.”
According to the Health Minister, emphasis will be placed on promoting healthy food choices and sleeping patterns. He also noted that a person must exercise daily.
“I am sure people will be surprised that you can make small and simple changes that result in a big difference in terms of longevity and a healthy lifestyle.” The Health Symposium and Conference will be launched on Friday at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre (ACCC). This is to observe the Caribbean's Wellness Day.
Caribbean Wellness Day is celebrated by CARICOM countries on the second Saturday in September, as part of a unified response to promote health, prevent, and control the epidemic of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
