West Coast land allocation: Croal says harvesting of cane delayed process

Over the past months, there have been concerns raised on social media by persons and other interested parties about the payment for land along the West Coast Demerara (WCD) corridor but not receiving same.

However, Housing and Water Minister Collin Croal, in response to those concerns, has assured them that they are not forgotten.

“Rest assure you will access your land shortly,” he contended.

Croal explained that there has been a two or three-month delay because “the lands for where we are doing infrastructure work in region three or let’s say West Coast that started off after the others because some of those lands we got from GUYSUCO so they wanted to wait until they harvest to get all the sugar cane on the land.”

He posited that there are several lands along Cornelia Ida (CI) that will be finished shortly and “then once we complete we will show them their land.”

Minister Croal further noted that these land allocation exercises would benefit the banking sector significantly as many citizens would likely be taking mortgages.

Similar land infrastructural works are ongoing along the East Bank corridor, and those residents are also asked to be patient as they, too, are not forgotten.
