West Indies “need to be hungry” as focus shifts to upcoming England Series – Pollard
The West Indies recorded a historic defeat against Ireland after 2-1 come-from-behind series victory from the third ODI gave Ireland a first ODI series win away from home against a full member.
This also was only its second series win against a full member, after Zimbabwe at home in 2019.
ODI Captain Kieron Pollard expressed dissatisfaction with the West Indies’ performance against Ireland in the recently concluded series.
“Obviously it’s no secret. I’m disappointed with the way we played, disappointed with the way we batted in the entire series.”
Skipper remarked.
Pollard noted work that needs to be done ahead of the England series.
“We just need to be mentally prepared to bat the conditions, bat the situations, bat for long periods of times. Sort of work on our techniques when a guy’s actually spinning the ball and different ways that we can try to counteract that at different times.”
“Different players have different ways of doing it but obviously we need to instill that confidence in them and they need to be doing that on a repetitive sort of basis in order to be able to come on the field and do it. We need to be hungry to grab the chances.”
He added.
England arrives in Barbados in January to play the blockbuster five-match T20I Series in a nine-day period from January 22 to 30, 2022, including two consecutive weekends of back-to-back action.
The highly-anticipated Test Series for the newly-minted Richards-Botham trophy, will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua on March 8-12.
The action then moves to Kensington Oval in Barbados for the second Test starting on March 16-20, with the third Test match on the “Spice Isle” of Grenada at the National Stadium on March 24-28. (CWI)
