Woman, 60, dies one day after being involved in accident at LBI

Salima Heeralal, 60, succumbed to her injuries on Monday after she was involved in a serious accident that occurred early Sunday morning on the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The accident involved two vehicles: motor car PAE 672, driven by 21-year-old Marshall Allicock of Earls Court, and motor car PAH 5148, owned by Trans Guyana Airway Limited and driven by Prakash Heeralal, 58, of Good Hope. Salima Heeralal, Prakash’s wife, was a passenger in the latter vehicle.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 6:00h when motor car PAH 5148 was travelling west along the southern driving lane of the embankment.

As it approached the intersection, motor car PAE 672 failed to stop, resulting in a collision with the right side of PAH 5148. This impact caused the second vehicle to veer off and collide with a nearby bridge.

Following the collision, bystanders rushed to the aid of Prakash and Salima Heeralal, extricating them from their vehicle before they were transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Both were admitted for treatment, but Salima’s condition deteriorated.

At approximately 8:00h on Monday, a police officer visited the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital and was informed that Salima had tragically passed away at around 2:40h that morning.

Prakash has since been discharged from the hospital, while Allicock remains hospitalised for observation.
