Woman found guilty of framing ex-boyfriend for rape charged for escaping lawful custody
Twenty-year-old Princess Williams, who was found guilty of framing her ex-boyfriend and attempting to extort $10 million from him, was today remanded to prison for escaping from lawful police custody.
Williams of Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was first charged in February 2021. The charge had stated that between January 4 – 7, 2021, in Georgetown, with intent to extort $10 million from Kenrick Thomas, she threatened to accuse him of attempting to rape her.
She was granted $100,000 bail. Magistrate Rondel Weaver conducted a trial and found her guilty. As such, she was remanded to prison pending sentencing set for June 6.
However, she was hauled today before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs – Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the escaping from lawful custody charge.
The court heard that on May 7, 2022, the 20-year-old was at East La Penitence Police Station, where she complained of feeling unwell. An officer took her to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) to seek medical attention.
After receiving medical care, the woman asked to use the washroom, and permission was granted. During this time, she escaped.
An alarm was raised, and she was subsequently found at Thomas and Lamaha Streets, with a cloth wrapped around her hands, hiding the handcuff. Magistrate Isaacs – Marcus remanded the woman to prison.
As for the other charge, it was reported that Williams and Thomas were in a sexual relationship for approximately four months, during which time he would invite her to his home to hang out and have dinner.
But on January 4, 2021, when he invited her to his home, and as they were about to engage in sexual activities, an argument ensued between the two. Thomas then asked her to get dressed and proceeded to take her home.
The following day, Thomas reportedly ended the relationship with Williams. Following the break-up, Williams sent a voice note to Thomas, claiming that he had raped her.
She further gave him an ultimatum to either pay her $10 million or she would make a report to the Police. Thomas immediately reported the matter to the police, and an investigation was launched.
