Woman who attempted to extort, frame ex-boyfriend of rape gets 3 years jail

Charged: Princess Williams

Twenty-two-year-old Princess Williams, who was found guilty of framing her ex-boyfriend and attempting to extort $10 million from him, was sentenced to three years behind bars on Monday.

Magistrate Rhondel Weever handed down the sentence in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after Williams of Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD), made another court appearance.

The 22-year-old woman was first charged in February 2021. The charge had stated that between January 4 – 7, 2021, in Georgetown, with intent to extort $10 million from Kenrick Thomas, she threatened to accuse him of attempting to rape her.

She had pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted $100,000 bail. She later changed her plea to not guilty pending a trial. On May 6, the trial concluded, and Magistrate Weever found Williams guilty and remanded her to prison.

The following day, she complained of feeling unwell and was taken to the Georgetown Public to seek medical attention. After receiving medical care, the woman asked to use the washroom, where she escaped.

An alarm was raised, and she was subsequently found at Thomas and Lamaha Streets, with a cloth wrapped around her hands, hiding the handcuff.

It was reported that Williams and Thomas were in a sexual relationship for approximately four months, during which time he would invite her to his home to hang out and have dinner.

But on January 4, 2021, when he invited her to his home, and as they were about to engage in sexual activities, an argument ensued between the two. Thomas then asked her to get dressed and proceeded to take her home.

The following day, Thomas reportedly ended the relationship with Williams. Following the break-up, Williams sent a voice note to Thomas, claiming that he had raped her.

She further gave him an ultimatum to either pay her $10 million or she would make a report to the Police. Thomas immediately reported the matter to the Police, and an investigation was launched.
