Woman who stabbed 4-year-old girl gets $150,000 bail

Updated: May 27, 2022

A 28-year-old woman who allegedly stabbed a four-year-old girl was today slapped with an attempted murder charge and was released on bail.

Padmini Dwarka, of 185 Cemetery Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was hauled before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court.

She was not required to plea to the indictable charge, which alleged that on April 10, at Timehri, Cemetery Road, she unlawfully wounded the child with intent to commit murder.

The accused was granted $150,000 bail and is scheduled to make another court appearance on May 17, 2022.

MTV News Update understands that on the day in question, the child was stabbed at about 20:10hrs to her left side abdomen by the accused, who shared a relationship with the little girl’s mother.

Reports are that the child’s mother picked her up and told Dwarka that she was leaving “because she is frustrated with the repetitive arguments between them.”

It was reported that the 28-year-old woman armed herself with a knife, approached the child’s mother, and attempted to stab her but instead ended up injuring the child.

She immediately escaped after committing the act, and as such, the child was then taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where she is in a critical but stable condition.

Three days later, Dwarka turned herself in to the police in the company of a lawyer.
