Woman who stabbed lover during row over phone call gets bail
A mother of three who allegedly stabbed her boyfriend during a row over a phone call from another man was on Friday released on $150,000 bail.
34-year-old Sabrina Bethune was hauled before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The charge states that on September 12, Evan Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, she wounded Linden Davidson with intent to commit murder.
Bethune’s lawyer Ronald Daniels informed the Court that his client and the victim had an argument that led to a scuffle over a stolen gold chain. During the scuffle, Daniels advanced that Davidson fell onto the ground and injured himself.
However, Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the Court that Bethune lashed Davidson with a piece of wood to his hands.
According to Jones, she then walked up to him from behind and dealt him a lash to the head with a glass bottle. The glass bottle broke, and she stabbed him to the neck with it.
The injured man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was hospitalised for three days. As a result, he cannot hear in his left ear and has injuries to his vocal cords.
The woman was released on $150,000 bail, and the case was adjourned to September 22. The Magistrate also ordered her to move out of the house and keep away from the victim.
Police had told the media that Bethune and Davidson shared an intimate relationship, which went sour after she received a phone call from another man.
An argument ensued between the two, and the mother of three armed herself with a knife and dealt the victim one stab to his neck. It was reported that the victim managed to jump onto a bicycle, ride to the Ruimveldt Police Station, and made a report.
