Women busted with 34 grams of ganja at Parika


The narcotics seized

An 18-year-old girl and a 52-year-old woman are in custody after police uncovered 34.31 grams of marijuana during an intelligence-led cordon and search exercise at Parika junction, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) on Friday.


The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that ranks from the Parika Police Station conducted a cordon and search exercise at the shop of a 52-year-old self-employed woman of Parika Retreat Road, EBE.


During the search, several zip-lock plastic bags containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in a pringles tin on the shop’s counter.


The bag, which some of the ganja was found in.

The 18-year-old girl, who was also at the shop, was searched, and a black plastic bag containing several zip-lock plastic bags containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in her bag.


According to the GPF, the duo was told of the offence committed but opted to remain silent. Notwithstanding, they were both arrested and escorted to Parika Police Station along with the suspected narcotics.


The narcotics found on the 18-year-old woman were weighed in her presence and amounted to 29.04 grams, while the narcotics that were found in the shop of the 54-year-old amounted to 5.27 grams. Both women were placed into custody pending investigations.
