The Government is looking to develop a Linden to Lethem road link with phase one which is the Linden to Mabura road to commence works shortly.
Senior Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh disclosed this during the opening of the 30th Annual General Meeting of the Private Sector Commission on Thursday.
In February, Guyana received no objection from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) who is a major investor in this project. This project is estimated at a cost of US$190M.
“The road to Lethem, which will link us to Brazil, as you know, we are at an advanced stage of procuring, we should be conducting a contract very shortly.
In April over $3B in contracts were signed for the rehabilitation of 32 bridges from Kurupukari to Lethem. According to the Finance Minister, this project also forms part of the Linden to Lethem road link, which will bring tremendous benefits to the business community and remove constraints they currently face.
“Our intention is to complete the road to Lethem so that Guyanese businesses can travel back and forth to Lethem and indeed so that Brazilian businesses can drive to coastal Guyana and back and forth”
