“You can’t coach experience” – Shabazz confirms Danns, Cox in squad to face Monsterrat

Golden Jaguars Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz names 24-man squad for Montserrat match, with senior players Neil Danns and Sam Cox both confirmed.

The Golden Jaguars completed their final training session in Trinidad earlier today, having arrived there on May 21 to sharpen their skills with some practice matches.

Head Coach of the Senior Men’s National Football Team Jamaal Shabazz praised the “total” effort and commitment by players and staff.

“In terms of the addition of the overseas based players to the squad, I think the competitiveness for places increased the intensity. It was so difficult to pick the 24 out of the 31 players that we had in the camp.”

Within the final squad of 24, senior players Sam Cox and Neil Danns have been selected while talented young Omari Glasgow also retained a spot.

Addtionally, he expressed thanks to the Guyana Football Federation for organising these vital camps. Shabazz also praised President Dr. Irfaan Ali for his intervention in supplying some players with much needed football shoes.

Shabazz added that the final few training sessions in Dominica will be focused on improving cohesion within the team ahead of Saturday’s game.

The Head Coach also commented on the value senior players Neil Danns and Sam Cox bring to the team.

“Both Danns and Cox are very experienced both at international level and at club level. And both of them also do a bit of coaches. So we’ve been able to use them some times to coach certain sessions and be a positive influence on the lads. You can’t coach experience.”

The Jaguars have their first Concacaf Nations League match on Saturday June 4th against Monsterrat at the Felix Sanchez Stadium in the Dominican Republic.

For their remaining three matches, they face Haiti at the same venue and Bermuda and Haiti at home in Leonora.

Following the round-robin group stage, group winners from Leagues A and B will secure spots in the imminent Gold Cup.
