‘Zipper,’ his son busted by CANU with cocaine
Andre Gomes, 61, called ‘Zipper’ and his son Mark Gomes, 38, were arrested on Friday by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) with cocaine.
In a statement on Saturday, CANU said that ranks conducted an operation at Lots 32 and 34 Craig Street Campbellville, Georgetown.
During the search of both properties, a quantity of transparent glass tubes labelled lidocaine, and a quantity of substances suspected to be cocaine was discovered.
Gomes and his son were arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected substances and the quantity of transparent glass tubes. The substances tested positive for cocaine and had a total weight of 24.4 grams.
The older Gomes, who is the owner of D&D Pawn Shop, and his son, are no strangers to law enforcement officials.
In 2018, the older Gomes was freed of a drug trafficking charge by City Magistrate Leron Daly. He was accused of trafficking 902 grams of cocaine on January 30, 2018, at his Craig Street home.
Also, in 2018, the younger Gomes and Mohammed Kadir were charged for trafficking 4.9 pounds of cocaine at Sheriff Street. The duo was found guilty and was slapped with a four years jail term and a $6 million fine.
Last year, the older Gomes was arrested again and charged after being busted with $2 million worth of cocaine.
